Security light that has a mind of its

Posted by Steve: on January 14th, 2002 07:00 PM

I mounted a mercury vapor security light with a photo senser to the from of my home. The light has a dusk to dawn sensor.

I ran a electrical leg to the light from a recepticle that had one side open. The recepticle is always hot.

In front of my home about 50 yards is a city street light that gives my home some light regardless.

I installed the light per instructions. Put the sensor facing opposite the streetlight.

Did a test and it worked fine.....BUT

during the night, the light will go off and on automatically. Very strange. The recepticle that I tied into does not supply anything that is eating amps or volts, and the light just requires a small amount of electricity.

What could be causing the light to go off and on during the night time.

I even took it back for another one thinking that it was defective, but this one does it also.

Cannot find anyone that seems to know what is happening.

Sure would appreciate some assistance.
