Section of Hardwood Floor Slopes....HELP!!

Posted by Jacki on August 26th, 1999 11:18 AM

The original owner of my home decided to put on an addition....but even though he levelled the entire house (it is quite sound), for whatever reason he didn't level the floor! I have two rooms that have 5 foot by 11 foot sections of hardwood flooring that slope to about 1.5 inches off level! Let me repeat that this is not a settlement problem---there is no structural damage whatsoever. This appears to be just plain old poor workmanship. I am considering lifting the five foot sloping sections and shimming them the entire five foot width to make the floor level again. I love the look of hardwood floors and do not want to consider carpeting (other than area rugs). Anyone out there have any other ideas? (P.S. I found out about this after removing the clever carpeting job.)
