Sealing Tile

Posted by C Johns on December 16th, 1999 05:21 PM

My husband and I are getting ready to move into our first brand new home. The majority of the house, including ALL of the high traffic areas, is tile. We had planned on sealing all of the grout. But recently we have heard that the sealant has a tendency to turn yellow and crytalize after several years. And I have been in several houses with sealed tile that had grout that still looked dirty even though it was sealed and supposed to be protected against dirt build up. My question is...should Grout/Tile be sealed? Does it help prevent dirt build up and staining? Does it tend to turn colors with age? And are the benefits worth all the trouble and literal backake that applying takes? Any advise is greatly appreciated. If you are for sealants then please let me know what brands worked good for you. Thanks!
