bentonite is an excellent sealing material, as long as you get high quality bentonite, usually mined in Wyoming. 2-4" of bentonite will provide an excellent water barrier--the problem is in placing it against a foundation already below
ground level. digging out a space that goes very deep against a foundation can require heavy equipment and operating expertise. also, putting it around a foundation may not stop the water if it is coming from beneath the structure.
