Re your inquiry about scroll saws: to me it depends
upon what you want to do and how much you are willing
to spend. The best scroll saws can cost more than
$1K, and if you are planning to do a lot of work-
especially fretwork, and can afford it, they are
worth the investment. I have an Excaliber and an
RBI. Both are excellent, and the service I received
from both companies is the same. The RBI has a
much more aggressive cut, but the Excaliber has a
top threading blade which makes fretwork much
easier. If you are not going to be doing serious
fret work, and are going to cut mostly soft woods,
there are a number of saws which are quite capable.
of performing at less than half the price. A couple
of years ago Wood Magazine published scroll saw
ratings. Look them up on line and you may be able
to find the issue. One more thing: invest in a
foot peddle. Turning any machine on and off very
often will mean very early switch replacement.
Don't hesitate to write with any further questions.
