I don't see why plans should be necessary. I would get hold of some old sashes that are well made and take them apart to analyze their construction. It should be easy to duplicate the dimensions and joining methods. The advantage here is that you can see exactly what you're getting before you make it. One piece of advice: I would use something very old as a model. During the past 100 years we have seen a gradual cheapening of construction methods as profits became more of a concern than quality. Get yourself a sash made around 1900 or so and you're likely to see construction methods that cannot be surpassed.
