Sagging ceilings???

Posted by deb on September 20th, 2002 02:23 PM

Hi, we have been in our home for one year. The house was moved, and an addition of a great room was made after the move to the current location. (before we bought it) In the great room the ceiling, is cracking in long strips and the outlines of the boards are becoming more apparent each day. This is also in the kitchen which is the adjoining room. The ceiling has the popcorn type finish. What could be the cause and how can it be corrected?? (just from the limited reading on forums such as this, I would suspect that they are drywall ceilings instead of drywall and with the moisture of the summer and the rains this is causing them to sag??? How could one tell this without knocking a hole?? I tapped on a wall that is drywall and then on the ceiling and it sounds just the same. Am I on track with this??)Thanks so much for any assistance!! God Bless, Deb
