Safe to block off some furnace registers?

Posted by roadhouse on December 27th, 2001 03:25 PM

I am trying my best to heat our house with wood this winter.
would like to block off most of our furnace registers,
leave open the ones to the two bedrooms we are using.
have 5 registers downstairs and 6 upstairs, want to close
off all downstairs and 3 of the upstairs ones.
will this cause my furnace to overheat or other probs?
we just cant pay $18 a day to run the furnace, before the gas b@stards
raised the price 500% it was only $3 a day in Janurary and that was reasonable.

I hope all the natural gas co's get flushed like Enron.

Mostly concerned about our three yr olds bedroom.

should we just mount an electric heater high on the wall
where our 3 yr old cant reach it?

Also the master bedroom has a fireplace, we thought about installing a ventless set of gas logs, if we could find some that had a
thermostat that would bring them on in the wee hours after the finre dies out in the wood heater downstairs.
Anyone done this?
