Router bit stuck

If you put the bit in right, you should be able to knock the bit down first, which will free it up. A bit is supposed to be inserted so the shank goes all the way down into the collet, then move it back up about 1/16", then tighten the nut. If you did this, you would be able to set the router up-side down on a pad, take a block of wood and put it on the end of the bit, and hit the wood with a hammer to knock the bit further into the collet but free the bit. Are you sure that the collet nut is free? If so, you probably can remove the bit, collet nut and collet, then go from there. If the collet was a little loose and the bit shank was spinning in the collet, those 2 parts could have welded themselves together and you will have to replace all 3 parts.
