Roof Vents Normally.....

Are baffled to prevent the majority of fine snow from drifting into the attic.
Having lived in snow country for many years, I have never seen enough snow migrate into the attic to cause water stains. Usually, as Steve said, a maximum of 1/4 inch of very light fluffy snow will build up on top of the insulation, and then evaporate directly (sublimate) or melt and evaporate without causing any water problems.
I would suggest you contact the contractor and have him replace the roof vents with a type with better baffling for snow.
Good Luck!
