Roof leak - how to handle water until it can be repaired?

Posted by Sue on January 30th, 2001 11:43 AM

The roof of our 3-story 6 flat is leaking into all 3 floors, and can't be repaired until spring. It seems like the water is dripping down between the inner/outer walls of the building, and hitting support beams on every floor and then running across the floors and ceilings.

Last night the water broke through the ceiling - it looked like it had been pooling up there for a while, and finally it came dripping through like a faucet last night. Is there some way to handle this? Would it make sense to have cut a hole into the ceiling to let it drain? Same with some of the walls, you can tell it's behind the plaster since the paint is bubbling up.

Help!
