Roof Crickets

My fireplace is leaking at the ceiling and walls and in the firebox. I recently had the roof re-flashed and notice that they didn't install a cricket uproof. We don't live in an area where it snows so maybe a cricket isn't necessary. But maybe the lack of a cricket is the source of my leak. The roofer specified a "galvanized steel saddle flashing as specified by the NRCA." Isn't that a cricket? Or are there other kinds of saddles besides crickets? Does the NRCA or anyone else require the use of a cricket? The pitch of my roof is very steep. Any tips or info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Michael.
