You did not say what kind of rock, e.g., limestone, granite, etc., you have. Be careful of the sedimentary type like limestone. I have personally observed them "exploding" when exposed to high temperatures. I believe the moisture contained therein expands and when the pressure reaches a certain point the structural integrity of the rock fails sending splinters off with considerble force. Luck.
