adam, i recently renovated a small 1000 sq. ft. house in which i changed the construction from balloon framing to platform framing. to do this, i had to jack up the walls, cut the studs to the sills, and install rim joists. i nailed and lag-bolted a 2x6 to the studs in the outside walls, thru the lap siding. i then connected cripple studs to reach my jacks (8 6-ton) that were firmly on the ground. the house walls came up easily (wood lap siding has great shear strenght). if your house is large, or multi-story, you may have problems, but this method worked for me.
