Anyone feel like educating a first time home owner on the basics of his heating system?
13 year old colonial. Gas, forced hot air. Each room has one vent in the floor for the heat and one "return" vent. The vent that the heat comes out of is flat/flush with the floor. The return vents are are longer and sit up from the floor. It appears that the return vents do not go to a duct. There is just a whole in the floor (plywood).
So here is the question: what do the return vents (if that is really what they are called) do and can I put flat/flush with the floor vents onto them?
