a problem that i ran into is that if you just go and start sanding the floor without tapping down the nail heads below the floor surface they will ruin the sanding belts. you but on a fresh one and after hitting the nails just once or twice the belt is too smooth and you are not sanding a darn thing. maybe you can tap down the originals, fill in the holes and then tap in some new, shorter nails very close to the oringinal ones. close enough so that the heads almost overlap so that it wont look like you have 2 rows going on. just a thought. good luck, i'm experimenting as well!
