Rescreening 1940's casement window screen frames

Posted by Steve Flaherty on September 8th, 2000 07:15 PM

My 1940's screens are finally starting to tear. The
frame is a steel "U" shape with a steel rod that holds
the screen in place. The local shop tells me that the
old screen material was a heavier gage than anything
available today, so it's very common for new screen to
tear when the rod is hammered into place.
Can these old screen frames be repaired, or do I need
to look for new frames?
