Wood floors work well in kitchens if you are reasonably careful about floods. I have never had a problem. Consider that if you ever sell your house, prospective buyers mentally deduct for vinyl floors with the idea of replacing it, and that should put our decision over the edge. More expensive, and worth it. You will enjoy it and it will ADD lasting value to your home. Don't believe me? ask any realtor.
