I just bought a house, and after the inspection, asked the seller to take care of some repointing that needed to be done to the chimney. They agreed. They called the agent today to say that, instead of doing the minor repointing required, they wanted to instead cover the entire chimney with cement. They said this would make the chimney last longer than it would just doing the minor repointing.
Can anyone let me know if I'm being taken for a ride here? Is it just cheaper to cover the whole thing in cement? Or is it actually better for the chimney?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
