Replacing wood shingles is pretty simple all you really need is a flat bar and some time you want to work to shingles loose gently that way you dont break the surrounding ones then you can simply pull out and replace but make sure there is at least 1 1/2 inches between the side laps pending on the climate there prob. isnt any roofing felt under them to damage so dont worry about that. If you are just looking for an easy way to fix the leak you can use a tin shingle about a 4"x8" and just slip it under the hole and use a dap of volcum or caulk to hold it in place hope this helps
