replacing subfloor

Posted by amanda's dad on April 8th, 2000 04:23 PM

I am going to put hardwood floors in my foyer, hall, etc. Currently this space is constructed in wafer board - particle board stuff. I can't put the planks over the particle board so I have to replace it. Any tips or tricks on handling the edges as obviously I can't replace the subfloor between the walls and the joists. How much support should I need on the edges since the plywood (3/4") is not going to have a nailer on the edges until I put one there?? 2X4's OK? Is a problem going to develop with any existing walls. This may sound stupid but I don't want to start cutting up my subfloor and end up with bigger issues. I could always go with a glue down wood floor but I'm willing to work for the real thing. Has anyone done this and survived?
Thanks - amanda's dad
