Replacing rotten bathroom subfloor

The floor of my small bathroom has spots that are so rotted that it's scary to walk on... It is not the entire floor, but close to the tub and around the toilet. I am thinking of replacing the floor myself, and am wondering if this is really such a difficult job. Someone I know that does a lot of do-it-yourself building stuff has said it's quite easy: just cut the old floor along the joists to the depth of the current floor, remove it and replace with new plywood. I will be replacing around under the toilet as well and installing a new toilet. Any suggestions to make this easier?
