replacing overhead light fixture

Posted by Hal S. on November 7th, 2000 03:46 PM

I went to replace a hall overhead light fixture but all the new ones had a warning that houses built before 1986 were rated for 60 degress C. These fixtures needed the hot wire to be rated at 90 degress C. and to check with an electrician before installing. My house was built in 1956. Can I replace the old fixtures safely with these new ones? If not what do I do?
Thank you.
