Replacing Cedar Shingle Siding - Preventing Future Problems

Posted by New Cape Homeowner on August 29th, 1999 08:58 PM

I just purchased a house with those beautfil silver weathered shingles... and of course the shingles are curled and failing, and water is coming into the house. So now that I have to reshingle two sides of the house, I'm wondering about using pre-treated shingles, or the effectiveness of staining the shingles after installation. My primary objective is to 1) ensure the new shingles have as long a life as possible, and 2) treat the two walls that don't need replacement so that the old shingles last longer. Any thoughts, suggestions?
