Replacement of 35 year old front entrance door and jam with new door.

Posted by John E Wade on October 11th, 1999 05:12 PM

I am a 79 year old general handyman with good
wood-working back ground. My 35 year old front
entance door and jam are need of replacement.

The current door is core,3/16" plywood laminated.
3-step-down, 6" x 10" glass viewing, 35-1/2" x
78-1/2" overall rectangle size, hung by 3-4"
butt brass hinges. The door jam is standard-pine
3/4 x 1"x4" x 6'-8" on a 2"-6" thress hold. The
door is sound but the jam has been drilled/cut
for new locks so many times that the retaining
hardware for the lock-bar fails to provide
adequate security.

I am seeking some instructional steps from start
to finish with emphasis on where to be cautious.

Thank you for any sdvise you can supply to me.
