The 2x6's should still be sufficient, as the current wall does not go down the middle of the house I am simply offsetting it the same distance from the middle, but the other direction. In other words I currently have span x and span y. x is 16' and y is 12', after moving the wall x will be 12' and y 16'.

I am now wondering if I can pull off the short 2x4 scab, and put a 2x6 scab on either side of the joint, thus sandwiching the joint. I could hold this all together with deck screws. Would this work, and if so how long should each scab be? Surely this sandwiched joint is stronger than 1 2x6, right?
