It is common for ceiling fans to humm when the motor begins to go bad. Assumming your fan blades are clean and your fan is securely attached to the ceiling and level with the ground I can see no other option but to either replace the motor or the whole fan assembly.

Don't use WD40. It will probably smoke or worse ignite when you turn on the fan.
