Don't tear out your plaster just because it is loose!
There are numerous ways to fix and repair plaster that has come loose from the lath or has degraded from the elements.
Please. Before you go about fixing your problem go to my web site and look through the various slide shows I have regarding the (true) restoration of historic plasterwork.
In particular, go to my BB on plaster discussions. There you will find many questions posed on this subject and a few of the answers you are looking for.
