Repairing drywall

Posted by Claire on April 27th, 2003 05:41 PM

I have about a 6"x6" spot of drywall that needs to be replaced. the only wood stud it's near is at the bottom of the hole. Can I cut a piece and secure it only with tape and mud? Or do I need to try to anchor it with screws to the stud on the bottom? I've never done this before. Do they sell small repair pieces of drywall or do I have to buy a whole sheet and have the home center cut it? Thanks
