Repairing Ceiling cracks

As our 6 year old house settles in, we have a few tiny ceiling cracks that I would like to repair, especially places where drywall nalls are punching through the ceiling and making little cracks. Is this simply a matter of plastering over the cracks or should I take steps to repair them?

Also, one piece of drywall has become slightly crunched, causing about a half inch on the left side to appear to be slipping. Is there a way to repair this, or should I simply cover this up with crown moulding?

Thanks all (especially thanks to Steve, who has helped me a few times this year).
