Today my water heater pressure relief valve went on the fritz seeping water. My water temp in the tank is set at warm but, still I have seeping water coming from the pressure relief valve. I feel that it must be replaced. Is this a simple task or do I need to call a plumber. If this is a simple task, can you advise me of the correct process. I looking at the job, I feel that I must complete the following:
1. turn off gas / cold water line / and open all hot water lines in order to drain water from the tank.
2. Once tank has been drained, unscrew defective pressure relief valve and replace w/ new valve.
( do I need to wrap the new valve w/ white plumblers tape in order to secure a seal )?
3.close all hot water lines / refill water tank /
re-light water tank
