removing vinyl flooring

I would like to replace the vinyl flooring in my kitchen and front entry hall. The flooring contractor in this small town quoted me $650 to remove it (about 750 sq. ft.) I tried taking it up myself using a putty knife and razor scraper but it took me about an hour to do a 2'X 2' area because it is so thoroughly glued down. Is there a easier, quicker way to get this glued vinyl up? I don't want to spent $650 to have it taken up if I can do it myself. Thanks!
