Removing tarnish from brass light fixture

Posted by Jeff Hogue on November 23rd, 1999 09:51 AM

I have several 100+ year old light fixtures that are
either solid brass or copper. (When I polish a small
area the metal is reddish instead of yellow) The
metal appears to have been coated and is very
oxidized (black).

Does anyone know of a mixture that I can soak the parts
in to remove the tarnish & oxidation? A regular metal
polish is not practical because of the size & detail
of the pieces.

Thanks for your help.
