removing paint from brick

I live in a 102-year-old brick building. The former owner of my unit decided to "seal" the slightly crumbling red brick in the bedroom by slathering it with a few thick coats of hunter green latex paint. I want the red brick there any way to go about doing that? It is hard to imagine sand-blasting indoors.
Also, I had a pro tell me to seal the red brick in other areas of the condo with something he called "Val oil"... What is this oil and what is its value?
Thanks for any help you can provide
