Remove old siding or just hang it over

Should I remove the T-111 and Redwood siding before I put the Hardy Plank up or just install the Hardy Plank over this older material? IF I can place it over the older material, is there any treatment that I should do to it first ?
I'm in North Texas and on a hill where we get some killer winds, rains, and lots of scalding sun beating down on us (Full Northern and Southern exposure to the elements, Western sun is slowly being passively reduced with new trees). This Hardy Plank material looks fantastic. I can stain/paint it to look like cedar or Redwood and still get a great looking house.
Thanking you in advance for your assistance,
