Remove Check Valve in Winter?

Let me ask about the check valve. Here in Indiana,
it seems to me that the water in the PVC pipe
above the check valve could freeze in the winter
months and block the passage of any more water that
the pump may try to deliver. Does it make sense
to remove the check valve in the cold winter months??
