Patinated quarter-sawn oak is a real gem and it would be a shame to strip it. Since you like the patina and don't want to lighten it, why do you even want to go there? Try cleaning it with hand cleaner (like Gunk, no pumice) to remove dirt and old wax, then apply paste wax. Sometimes less IS more.
