Refinishing Rosewood Table

I have a modern coffee table made of a flat board with chrome legs.
The veneer is rosewood. When I bought the table 40 years ago
the finish was matte and the grain had a texture. Due
to some damage the top was refinished and coated with a
shellak or lacquer. What is a good product to remove the
finish? Any suggestions on how to revive the grain?
