The 1920's house we are buying has all the original chestnut framing thresholds, windows, etc. my husband thinks the stain is too dark, and would like something that comes closer to the lighter oak floors. will stripping and restaining ruin the quality of the chestnut? is there ANYTHING we can do to really brighten/lighten up the wood WITHOUT stripping and restaining? Please help!
