refinishing bathtubs

Posted by Mark Boden on July 19th, 1999 08:35 PM

Is there anyone out there who will put a new porcelin
coating (NOT paint/epoxy/powder coat/clear coat) on my old
clawfoot tub? I have had contractors in the past re-
finish the tubs by basically painted over the porcelin-
but I want an original finish back on my tub-the paint
ALWAYS chips after just a few years. I belive the tub
should be sandblasted, "re-porcelined" and then baked
in a kiln, up to 2000 degrees.....I live in Columbus Ohio
and would be willing to take the tub anywhere in Ohio.

Is this process cost prohibitive? Should I just go out
and buy a new acrylic clawfoot?

I've got to get this gutted bathroom done before Labor Day
or my wife will berate me BIGTIME! The tub is already
in my truck...just need a place to take it. Should I
take it to the steel recycler? Also-I'm a computer DOLT-
pls. respond via email-I might actually be able to find
your response. Smart-alec comments welcome-they provide
"conditioning" for my wife's verbal abuse, which starts
just before her family arrives on Labor day-I think I'll
go start on the outhouse....
