Hi Andrew

Sorry I can't give advice on the curtains but the door is not a problem. You have to use primers specifically formulated for metal surfaces(regular oil based doesn't work)."Red Oxide" primer is very good for steel(ferrous). It's the same stuff they use to prime automobiles before painting. It's the only type of coating that will effectively inhibit rust from forming.I know it's not standard renovation practice but it's the only stuff that will work. Most companies who make metal piants like Tremclad have it(I don't know about Benjamine Moore).Be sure you know what type of metal your door is made of.There are different oxide primers for different metals. For example zinc oxide is for galvanized steel. The primer container will specify which type of metal it can be used on.

Good luck!
