Red-lining & Check Prints in New Construction

Posted by Suz Hall on December 27th, 1998 03:28 PM

My husband and I are about to break ground on our first
home. Being a novice at any type of home experience I'm
a little concerned about something that happened to us
last week. Several weeks ago, (before Thanksgiving) we
told the builder every extra that we wanted that had to be
noted on our blueprints. (3 extra windows and an exterior
door in the basement.) The sales person told us that
she was going to send our additions and where we wanted
them, to their home office and that they were going to
send edited prints with our changes and then at that point
we would make sure that everything was where we wanted it.
Something happened, and our prints got lost in the
shuffle. It wasn't hard for us to remember where we
wanted everything, so we didn't think it was a big deal.
The builder called and we arranged to meet with her last
Sunday to review the new prints, which she had to "re-order"
since they got lost. My problem is this. . .
The prints weren't revised. She took regular stock prints
and just added things in roughly. I thought at first
that we were just redoing what had been lost until she
said "Are you sure this is what you want, because after
this it is etched in stone." This worried me, because
I thought that check prints were supposed to be real
renderings of what our house is going to be, not her
penciling things in roughly. Am I overreacting?

Thanks in advance.
