It is good that you do not have enough pressure drop in the return line to cause a presure switch to activate, but activate it you must if you want to use it. As long as there is air flow while the cleaner is operating, the unit should be undamaged. If a relay is what you need to activate in the absence of a pressure drop, then that seems reasonable.
