NO WAY!!!!! Yes oil does produce more BTU's per gallon (not much, about 10,000) and usually is cheaper( about .05) In reality its less than $100.00 /yr.The inconvience far out weighs the money.(requires more maint.) As a matter of fact, this winter heating oil peaked at $1.26 while propane peaked at $0.84 Imagine that. Our propane customers were money ahead! We sell both. Plus during the winter you will have to kero. or a fuel conditioner which also adds cost. Unless ofcourse you install the tank in the basement I could never figure out why someone woukd build a beautiful new home and stick a dirty oil tank in the basement.
Propane is reliable ,safe. burns clean, very envirnmentally friendly. Sure you have a tank in your yard. They can be hidden easy enough, if thats a concern. Or underground tanks are availible. My wife and I just bought a new home 2 years ago, if it had oil heat she didnt even look at it. Believe me the smell is there and once its there, its always there, like cat urine. Also I had a propane customer 7-8 years ago for her stove, she bought her oil from someone else. Well she developed a leak in one oil tank It drained both 275 gallon tanks. Probly lost 200 or 300 gallons. No problem , DEC has someone clean it up dig up the soil and haul in new.The only problem is this woman lived in a shack, about 70 years old , on SSI. IM sure she didnt have a fortune stashed in her matress.I WILL NEVER HAVE OIL HEAT. And dont get me started on electricity Its propane or Nat Gas for me.
