I think Ralph Lauren products are great!! Easy to apply. You just have to be patient. Faux finishes are not a one step process. If you read the directions and be patient you'll have no problems.
I have also found that buying all the specialty applicators is not necessary. Use your imagination. I used a regular thick roller cover to apply first coat of the suede paint. Followed up with a 3" brush using an X pattern. Looks great!
The River Rock is an awesome look too. Just applied like any other paint. Yes two coats maybe even three. So give them a try for a very upscale look. And texture.
