Radiant Heat and Hardwood Floors

Posted by Malcolm on February 28th, 2001 11:21 AM

I am building a small two-story house in Eastern Long Island and am considering installing a radian heating system under 3/4" hardwood flooring (probably maple). My first question is, do the two work together? It would seem to me that the hardwood would want to expand and contract too much sitting right above the radiant system. My second questions is can anyone recommend one system over another? My third questions is does anyone have any installation instructions/tips/tricks for this system? Right now I have 5/8" plywood on top of my joists. I want to install the hoseing and 3/4" plywood sleepers, and then the flooring.
Thanks in advance.
