You might want to consider a radial arm saw, as it is a multi-use tool. This tool definately has compromises, it isn't the best miter saw or the best table saw, but it does many things adequately. I picked up mine barely used for $200 in the want ads of my local paper.
Although, I wouldn't want to be without a skill saw, you can pick up one fairly inexpensively, get a 71/4" model.
