PVC glue

Posted by Hunt Garner on February 7th, 2003 02:51 PM

I have a question about PVC and the glues that are used with it, but this is not a plumbing question. I am using the PVC for a wall system whose finished surface will be smooth PVC. If I understand it correctly, PVC glue melts the PVC surfaces being glued, so the bond is actually is a “weld” between the two surfaces.

I want to afix moldings and trim to the surface, only if it will be a truly permanent installation. If my above stated understanding about the “weld-like” bond caused by the glue is correct, such a weld would turn out not to be a joint but actually a bonding between the two PVC surfaces; that of the molding or trim and the surface itself. This would make the installation permanent in the truest sense.
