since I am not familar with this tile. I was around during that time, but this does not ring any bells.
Is the back of the tile smooth? Or is it like those same circa tin tiles which are concave?
I would suggest cutting them with a portable band saw, jig saw with reverse cutting blades, like the ones use to cut counter top holes, or a roto zip with the cut off attachment, or just a hax saw.
I would think that whatever saw or cutting device you use the blades need to be very fine and high count per inch.
You want a smooth cut, then I would round off the cut with sand paper.
As far as glue, why would not regular mastic work?
