proper support for second story addition

Posted by C. Peter Luna on April 3rd, 2003 05:06 PM

I plan on going up and out on my remodel, I live in a Ranch style tract home built about 1964. I considered cutting holes in the floor close to the point of needed support. Then digging and pouring into a sono-tube, then drilling in a cement anchor (drop-ins (hilti type))bolting a post anchor to that (as used in porch decking, but prefabbed of red iron)then with custom made iron beam with slots for the underflooring (joist in this case) make the support point. Is this feasible and what is the code on support from single story to two story. please give me any incite on this project towards support point I am an union electrician by trade thats my domain. When it comes to all else I'm pretty much a novice. Thank you
